Crypto World on High Alert: CZ Warns of Phishing Frenzy Targeting Major Info Sites

CZ's Urgent Alert: Beware of Wallet Connection Scams!

Hold onto your hats, crypto fans! Changpeng Zhao, the big boss at Binance, just dropped a bombshell warning on X. He's telling everyone to watch their backs when connecting wallets because a tsunami of phishing scams is crashing down on major crypto info sites!

Recent Hacks Shake the Crypto Community

This red alert comes hot on the heels of not one, but two audacious hacks. First up, Cointelegraph got hit, and right before that, the go-to price tracker CoinMarketCap was under fire.

Cointelegraph's Nightmare: Malicious Pop-Ups and Fake Airdrops

Just this past Sunday, Cointelegraph's site turned into a hacker's playground with a front-end exploit. A sneaky pop-up started flashing, luring users with "CoinTelegraph ICO Airdrops" and "CTG tokens." It promised a cool $5,500 in tokens if you'd just connect your wallet. To make it look legit, the scammers threw in a fake "fair launch" event and a bogus CertiK audit. Talk about nerve!

Cointelegraph's Urgent Response

🚨 ALERT: We've got a situation! Fraudulent pop-ups are claiming to offer "CoinTelegraph ICO Airdrops" or "CTG tokens" on our site.

DO NOT:
- Click on these pop-ups
- Connect your wallets
- Enter any personal information

We're on it, working fast to fix this mess.

Cointelegraph didn't waste a second, blasting out a warning on X, telling everyone to steer clear of those dangerous pop-ups. "Do not click, connect, or share personal info," they shouted. The team's all hands on deck, racing to squash this bug.

CoinMarketCap's Close Call

And just two days before Cointelegraph's ordeal, CoinMarketCap faced its own nightmare. Hackers tried the same dirty trick, using a fake "verification" pop-up to trick users into wallet connections. Wallet heroes MetaMask and Phantom stepped up, flagging the site as a no-go zone. CoinMarketCap didn't miss a beat, yanking the bad code and diving deep into an investigation to armor up their defenses.

Google Search Ads: The New Frontier for Crypto Scammers

But wait, there's more! Just a few days ago, another scam tried to cash in on the trust in big names like Aave. Fake ads popped up at the top of Google search results, leading users straight into the jaws of phishing sites that mimicked the DeFi platform and drained wallets dry.
