GENIUS Act on Stablecoins Could Land on Trump's Desk By Week's End!
Holy crypto, folks! The game-changing GENIUS Act, all about those stablecoins, is speeding towards President Trump's desk, and it might just get there by the end of the week!
Hold onto your hats, the key stablecoin bill just got a procedural thumbs up, but without a single Democrat on board. On Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives pushed it through with a nail-biting 215–211 vote. If it sails through the next round, it's straight to Trump's desk before you can say "blockchain"!
$XRP's tweet was all fire emojis: "New Financial System Begins - Fedwire ISO, Clarity Act, Anti CBDC Act, Genius Act - all check!"
But wait, there's more! The Digital Asset Market Clarity Act is also zooming ahead. This so-called Clarity Act is setting the stage for a full-blown digital asset regulation showdown, sorting out who does what between the SEC and CFTC.
The procedural vote got the green light from the Republicans after some intense backroom wrangling. Before the vote, Trump was all in, saying key players were backing the bill. But, surprise, surprise, not a single Democrat was down to proceed.
Republicans Slam Brakes on GENIUS Act Over CBDC Fears
Earlier this week, the House hit the brakes on both the GENIUS and Clarity Acts in a 196–223 vote, thanks to a Republican rift. Big names like Marjorie Taylor Greene, Chip Roy, and Michael Cloud from the House Freedom Caucus said nope.
Greene was all over it, worried the GENIUS Act could pave the way for a national stablecoin, AKA a central bank digital currency. She was loud and clear about digital freedom and surveillance issues, saying CBDCs should never see the light of day in the U.S.
She tweeted, "I will not vote for this. The only way to ban a CBDC is through law. The GENIUS Act doesn't ban CBDC or keep people's chain of custody secure. Revelations 13:16-17."
Greene's stance was firm: no CBDC ban in the GENIUS Act, no vote from her. Yet, the House is also pushing the Anti-CBDC Surveillance State Act, which straight-up bans the U.S. government from issuing any programmable money. This crypto saga is far from over, folks!
