Google Wallet Goes Incognito with Zero-Knowledge Proofs!

Hang onto your hats, folks! Google is cranking up the privacy dial by dropping zero-knowledge proofs into Google Wallet. Now, you can strut your stuff online and prove your age without spilling the beans on your birthday!

This isn't just a cool new trick; it's a game-changer! By slipping these cryptographic identity tools into everyday apps, Google's making privacy not just accessible, but downright invisible. It's like wearing a cloak of invisibility, but for your data!

“When tech giants like Google start weaving Zero-Knowledge Proofs into their apps like it's no big deal, you know privacy's about to go mainstream,” Rob Viglione, the co-founder of Horizen Labs, told us. “The next big thing? Building privacy solutions that keep the regulators happy while cranking up the protection for us regular folks.”

Age Thresholds for Online Purchases

Google's not messing around. They're using ZKPs to power a slick new way to verify your age through their Digital Credential API.

Imagine this: you want to swipe right on Bumble or grab a bottle of vino online. With this tech, you can prove you're old enough without giving away anything else. It's like flashing a VIP pass without showing your face!

“We’re cooking up a system that not only checks your age but does it while wrapping your privacy in a big, cozy blanket,” Google declared in their blog. “No way anyone can trace that age back to you!”

Viglione's all in on this move. “Privacy shouldn't be some fancy extra or an afterthought—it should be the norm,” he said. “It's thrilling to see the big dogs finally get it.”

And hold onto your seats, because Google's not stopping there. They're planning to open-source their ZKP tech, helping other wallets and services jump on the privacy bandwagon. Plus, they're rolling out digital IDs in more U.S. states, the U.K., and 50 other countries. It's a privacy party, and everyone's invited!
