Linea's Token Launch on Hold: Waiting for the Bull Market to Charge Back

Hold onto your hats, crypto fans! Linea's product head, Declan Fox, just dropped a bombshell: they're hitting the brakes on their token generation event (TGE) until the market goes bullish again. That's right, they're waiting for the bulls to come charging back before they let their token loose!

In a fiery post, Fox responded to a community poll that's been buzzing with over 1,000 votes. The word on the street? Everyone's still holding their breath for that sweet Linea token airdrop. But it looks like they'll have to wait a bit longer.

Based on the poll results, Fox revealed that the team behind the Consensys-backed protocol is playing the long game. They're not launching that TGE until the market's back in full swing. Talk about a strategic move!

"My takeaways are still to improve communication, reignite excitement around the ecosystem and raise standards across the board (we are Consensys and it's time to show that), flip all the bears to bulls and then TGE," Fox declared. It's clear they're not just waiting around—they're gearing up for a big comeback!

Good to see the feedback. My takeaways are still to improve communication, reignite excitement around the ecosystem and raise standards across the board (we are Consensys and it's time to show that), flip all the bears to bulls and then TGE 🫡

Right now, the crypto market's still licking its wounds after a brutal slump on April 7. Big names like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana took a nosedive alongside stocks in Asia, Europe, and the U.S. after President Trump threw a wrench in the works with blanket tariffs on imports from 180 countries and regions.

But hey, there's a silver lining! At press time, the overall crypto market cap has bounced back by 1.8%, or around $200 billion, from $2.4 trillion to $2.6 trillion in the past 24 hours of trading. That's some serious resilience!

Back in March, Linea's former Marketing Lead, Christopher Kocurek, told the Discord community that Consensys execs and the project's board were gunning for a TGE in Q2 2025. But Kocurek's since jumped ship to an "early-stage startup," and we've heard crickets about the TGE ever since.

Anticipation towards a Linea token airdrop

Meanwhile, an X user going by LineaDegenLover took the pulse of the market with a poll that's got everyone talking. The results? A whopping 42.3% of users think the TGE's happening in Q2 2025. And get this—nearly 40% plan to sell their airdrop tokens, while 25% are holding tight. But here's the kicker: over 50% have lost faith in the project. Ouch!

A Polymarket betting pool that wrapped up on April 1 with nearly $3.5 million on the line showed the odds of a Berachain (BERA) airdrop at 90% and a Linear airdrop at 89% at the start of 2025. But by April 1, only Berachain came through, leaving Linear in the dust with a big fat No.

So, what's the deal with Linea? It's a zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine rollup that Consensys launched on Nov. 13. The Linea Association is an independent Swiss non-profit that's all about pushing the protocol's open-source decentralized tech and governance forward.

And on that same day, they announced plans to drop their native token by the end of Q1 2025, which holders can use to get in on the ecosystem's governance action. But with the TGE on hold, it looks like we'll have to wait and see if Linea can reignite that excitement and flip those bears to bulls!
