MIM Hack Mastermind Shuffles $7.5M Through Tornado Cash!
Holy smokes, the MIM hack mastermind just tossed $7.5 million worth of their stolen loot into the notorious Tornado Cash mixer! Can you believe it?
Blockchain security gurus at CertiK caught the crook red-handed, funneling 3,001 ETH, about $7.57 million, from their shady wallet starting with 0x51baB straight into Tornado Cash. These guys don't miss a beat!
That chunk of change is over half of what they nabbed from Abracadabra Finance's stablecoin - a cool $13 million gone in a flash!
CertiK didn't hold back, blasting out on their post, "The MIM_Spell exploiter has just sent 3,001 ETH (~$7.57M) to Tornado Cash from 0x51baB." Boom!
And get this - CertiK's chart shows the funds bouncing through four different Ethereum addresses like a hot potato! First, 6,261 ETH, the exact amount snatched from MIM, then two more wallets shuffling 3,001 ETH before it landed in Tornado Cash's lap.
How did the MIM hack go down?
On March 25, 2025, the MIM Spell got hit hard, losing 6,261.13 ETH, nearly $13 million, in a blink. The attack zeroed in on the gmCauldron smart contracts, messing with the link between GMX's decentralized exchange and Abracadabra's lending setup.
CertiK's deep dive revealed that the exploit let the hacker borrow cash without paying it back and then liquidate it. Sneaky!
"This was due to the liquidation process not overwriting records in RouterOrder that counted as collateral, letting the exploiter borrow more funds after liquidation," CertiK explained. Mind blown!
But wait, there's more! Abracadabra Finance, MIM's parent company, stepped up and bought back 50% of the losses from that $13 million heist. They also made sure user funds stayed safe from the chaos.
The team's on a mission to claw back their stolen crypto, but it's getting tougher with every move these hackers make, especially after they've run it through mixers like Tornado Cash. The chase is on!
