SEC Drops Bombshell: PGI Global's CEO Busted in $198M Crypto Scam!
From Luxury Cars to Designer Goods: How Ramil Palafox Allegedly Swindled Investors
Holy smokes! The Securities and Exchange Commission just threw down the gauntlet on Ramil Palafox, the big cheese at PGI Global. They're saying he pulled off a jaw-dropping $198 million international fraud scheme, all wrapped up in the glitzy world of crypto and forex trading. And get this—he allegedly blew over $57 million of investor cash on swanky cars, high-end fashion, and his own lavish lifestyle!
Listen up, folks. The SEC is claiming that from January 2020 to October 2021, Palafox was out there selling "membership" packages, promising investors the moon with high returns. These packages were supposedly tied to PGI Global's "crypto asset and foreign exchange trading," and they even threw in some multi-level-marketing-style referral incentives to get people to bring in more suckers, I mean, investors.
But here's the kicker: the financial watchdog says Palafox was luring people in with the "allure of guaranteed profits" from crypto and forex trading. Instead of trading, though, he was out there buying cars, watches, and homes for himself and his family, all on the investors' dime!
"Palafox used the guise of innovation to lure investors into lining his pockets with millions of dollars while leaving many victims empty-handed. In reality, his false claims of crypto industry expertise and a supposed AI-powered auto-trading platform were just masking an international securities fraud."
Laura D'Allaird, chief of the Commission's new cyber and emerging technologies unit
The SEC isn't messing around. They've filed their complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and they're gunning for permanent injunctions, penalties, and to claw back all those ill-gotten gains. And that's not all—Palafox is also facing criminal charges in a separate case from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. Buckle up, because this ride is far from over!
