TikTok Slams Congressman's Wild Claims of $300M TRUMP Coin Bribery!
Hold onto your hats, folks! TikTok's official X account just clapped back at Congressman Brad Sherman's bombshell accusation that the app's "Chinese owners" dropped a cool $300 million on TRUMP memecoins to sweet-talk President Trump into giving them another extension!
TikTok didn't hold back, firing off a response to Sherman's post that totally roasted Trump's latest Executive Order. This move pushed back TikTok's U.S. closure deadline yet again, giving them another 90 days to find a buyer or face a ban. Can you believe this is the third time they've dodged the bullet?
Sherman's not backing down, though. He's throwing punches, claiming the White House only gets to throw one lifeline, and that Trump's EO is straight-up "illegal." But wait, there's more! He's also accusing TikTok of trying to bribe the U.S. government by splashing out $300 million on "Trump (TRUMP) Coins."
TikTok's official account didn't mince words, calling out Sherman's claims as "patently false and irresponsible." They even threw shade at him for not even getting his facts straight about a letter he signed last month!
Sherman's not done stirring the pot, though. He's alleging that Trump's raking in this $300 million bribe since he's the one minting these "Trump Coins" at no cost. Cha-ching!
But TikTok's not taking this lying down. Their policy account wasted no time debunking Sherman's wild claims, labeling them "false and irresponsible."
"Congressman, claiming that the owners of TikTok are buying 'Trump Coins' is patently false and irresponsible and doesn't even accurately reflect a letter you signed last month," TikTok fired back.
Why does Brad Sherman believe TikTok bought $300m TRUMP memecoins?
So, where's Sherman getting this crazy idea from? Turns out, it all stems from a press release by GD Culture Group, a Nasdaq-listed company dabbling in AI-generated content and e-commerce. On May 12, they announced they were going all in, committing $300 million to TRUMP memecoins and Bitcoin (BTC).
Here's the kicker: GD Culture has zero formal ties to TikTok. TikTok's actually owned by a totally different company, ByteDance, based in China. And guess what? There's not a shred of credible evidence that ByteDance ever touched TRUMP memecoins or any crypto for that matter.
Fast forward to August 2024, and GD Culture's launching their own TikTok account @streamlineainews. They're all about spreading the latest and greatest in the wild world of AI. So, while GD Culture's got a foot in the TikTok door, they're just a client or user, not owned by ByteDance.
Stay tuned, folks! This rollercoaster's just getting started!
